Practitioner - Kevin Young

Practitioner Kevin Young has been a follower of health, fitness and sports for many years. He has trained extensively in martial arts, tai chi/qi gong, and Wing Chun. He also competed for Woking Athletic Club in the Shot Putt, Discus and Hammer. His last competitive sport was American football in England for 6 years. After stopping playing competitive sports, Kevin decided to retrain to help other people in injury, health and well-being.

He graduated from the University of Westminster with BSc (Hons) in Traditional Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture in 2000. He also gained a Diploma in Qigong Tui Na in 2006. While at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, he also gained a Diploma in Chinese Patent Herbal Remedies in 2002. Kevin also qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist, Sports Therapist and Sports Massage Therapist. He later graduated from Cardiff Met University with an MSc in Lower Limb Musculoskeletal Studies in 2013.

Kevin is a lecturer of anatomy and structural diagnosis. He is also the Tui Na course director at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading. He also lectures at both Glyndwr Wrexham and Met Universities in Cardiff. National acupuncture conferences regularly invite him to lecture/speak. The subjects being Chinese Medicine & Sports Acupuncture. He has also been a guest speaker at National conferences in Sweden, Norway and Ireland.

Sports Acupuncture

Various sports teams made use of Kevin’s skills for many years. He uses a fusion of western diagnostic skills and Traditional Acupuncture as the main treatment modality. He originally trained as a sports masseur and then a physiotherapist and treated sports injuries the conventional way.

However, he soon noticed that some injuries didn’t respond to this conventional way.  He started to research different methods of treatment to help athletes. Furthermore,  Kevin progressed and trained in Traditional Chinese medicine, Acupuncture, Tui Na and Chinese Patent herbal formulae.

He now incorporates Chinese medicine, Acupuncture, Tui Na (Medical Massage), and balms and herbal plasters. These help with the healing of (not only) sports injuries but musculoskeletal pain & injury.

Finally, he has found a way of using various modalities, eastern and western medicine, to help athletes succeed. He still uses exercise and stretches therapy rehabilitation from the East and West to strengthen the injured area.

When you visit the Practitioner, Kevin, at the Egham Acupuncture centre, he will take an in-depth western and Chinese history. This will enable him to diagnose your injury.  He will then prescribe a complex treatment plan. It will include rehab exercises to encounter your injury breakdown and rectify any issues found in the analysis.

These treatments may include; Acupuncture, Electrotherapy, Tui Na, sports massage, herbal balms or plasters. And, of course, not forgetting your rehab program.
